Social Ministry

Loving God, Loving Neighbor

Christ Lutheran members and friends work together to share the love of God in tangible ways. We gratefully give of our time and energy to serve others throughout our community. These are some of the ministries we currently support:

Social Club: This ministry has been a part of Christ Lutheran Church for more than 30 years. Twice a month, adults with emotional and mental challenges are picked up in the church van from an area home for adults, brought to the church or another designated place, and served a meal. Volunteers also assist the participants with an activity. (Bingo is a favorite!)
Habitat for Humanity: Working with Thrivent Financial and other area Lutheran congregations, we participate in Habitat Builds in our community, extending the arms of Christ to provide people with real homes.
Congregations in Action: Local churches provide assistance to our nearby elementary schools. We provide tutors, mentors, and healthful snacks for at-risk youth.
Green Team: Christ Lutheran members and friends gather regularly to learn, share ideas, and plan projects to help us better care for God's good creation.
Middle School Food Bank: Throughout the school year we collect non-perishable food items and deliver them to Woodrow Wilson Middle School.

Volunteers from Christ Lutheran and other area congregations work on a Habitat Build.

Roanoke Area Ministries: Since 2020, Christ Lutheran members have faithfully provided bag lunches twice a month. RAM House is a day shelter serving area needy and homeless individuals and families.
St. Francis House: In addition to financial support, we also collect non-perishable food items in our food barrel located in the gathering area outside our sanctuary. Items donated are delivered to St. Francis House to be shared with those in need.
Family Promise: Local congregations and volunteers provide temporary housing and meals for families with children. Family Promise provides full-time case management to assist the families in addressing and overcoming causes of homelessness and creating goals for employment, housing and education.
